Sideboard in oak
The design of this sideboard followed a well-trodden route, starting with sketches, examples and discussions. I then produced some more accurate drawings, before the creation of a full size mock-up in scrap materials. The mock-up allowed my clients to see how the size of the piece would work in their room, and we were quickly able to refine the overall proportions.
As with many of my designs there is a good dose of Arts & Crafts influence, and I hope that I have achieved a pleasing balance of proportion, detailing and practicallity.
Tapering legs lift the piece from the floor and prevent it from looking too heavy, whilst the overhang of the top is visually supported by curved and moulded brackets. The doors feature panels which are alive with beautiful quarter-sawn grain. Hand-made handles echo the shapes of the door panels and mouldings.
