Bookcase in European oak
This bookcase was made to commission for a domestic setting.
Solid European oak was used throughout, finished with a highly durable wax-oil blend by Osmo.
The significant element in the design of the piece was the need to make some archive files readily accessible, hence the removable drawers above the cupboard section. Because the piece was destined for a narrow room I used the gentle curve on the front to 'thin out' the top section. This allowed the piece to be tall without feeling too imposing or top heavy.
Adjustable shelves in the cupboards add to the storage versatility.
The overall shape and proportions reflect Arts and Crafts styling, and the simple detailing allows the beauty of the wood to speak for itself. Figured panels in the doors and drawers were used for their wonderful natural texture and pattern.
