Internal door with stained glass panels

This door was designed to provide a focal point in a narrow hallway. The style complements the period of the house, and sits well with the tiled floor and other architectural details.

The door was made from Douglas fir, and since installation the colour has darkened nicely so that it could almost be mistaken for pitch-pine. This is a very wide door, so I used bolection mouldings around the panels to add visual depth and solidity. Ball-bearing hinges were used to provide easy movement and long-term reliability. A reproduction rim lock and handles completed the look.

The stained glass panels in the door and transom light were designed and made by Northern Lights Stained Glass in Kendal. You can see more of Sarah Sutton's glasswork on the Links page.
