Boat restoration
Valkyrie
Valkyrie is believed to be a Westcliffe One-Design, built by Cole & Wiggins in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Her history is unknown, but judging from her style and condition she could date from the 1930's.
I acquiredValkyrie in 2006, and over the next few years I intend to restore her to her former glory. I also intend to spend a lot of time sailing her, so work will be carried out in stages over the winter months.
This year I have been replacing the ribs in the aft section of the hull. She will also be getting a new rudder, and bottom-boards, and a lick of paint. And new rigging. And then I really will put her back in the water. Maybe just do the centreboard case first....
Watch this page for project updates as work progresses. If you know anything about Valkyrie's history please get in touch.

Flaky paint and tired varnish
Undoing years of neglect and thick paint
Fresh oak ribs steamed in and ready for riveting
"Only another hundred rivets to go..."
