Public Sculpture
"Swift"
In 2006 I began a fruitful collaboration with Silverdale artist Alan Greenwell, working on a major public sculpture installation.
"Swift" is a suspended sculpture in aluminium, which was installed in the Golden Square Shopping Centre in Warrington in April 2007. The piece conveys ideas of speed and motion, and is constructed from anodised aluminium panels suspended on stainless steel cables.
The overall length of the sculpture is about 8 metres.Click on the pictures below for more details.

The project was developed from the concept stage by 3D CAD, followed by model-making at 1/4 scale. 3mm alloy sheet was supplied by Simmal of Preston, and mirror polished by Sillivan in Salford. The profiles were water-jet cut from our CAD files by K-Cut in Morecambe, before being rolled and test assembled in my workshop. The panels were then taken to Heywood Metal Finishers in Huddersfield for anodising. Suspension cables were produced by Stainless Steel Solutions, with other engineering elements by Black Sheep Iron Works at Holme, Carnforth.
